KEYNOTES & IN CONVERSATIONS REVEALED

SASHA reflects on life and the future in electronic music | Gilles Peterson presents The Psychology of DJing with Greg Wilson | Hayden James In Conversation | John Watson In Conversation

Since bursting onto the scene in 2013, producer Hayden James has amassed hundreds of thousands of fans; played every major Australian festival worth playing; toured the world; supported the likes of Disclosure and Odesza on US and Australian tours; and received big nods of approval from both industry and public, with ARIA Awards nominations and multiple features in triple j’s Hottest 100. A rare artist that defies the notion that artists today need to be releasing with high output, Sydney’s Hayden James joins EMC for an intimate recounting of his unique journey thus far and why quality over quantity has been paramount to his success.

The man behind the careers of The Presets, Midnight Oil, and Silverchair, John Watson is one the most revered artist managers in Australian music history (and also regarded as one of the most brilliant conference speakers in this country). Association of Artist Managers’ Leanne de Souza leads a rare ‘In Conversation’ with John, who will share treasured insights into what it takes to be a successful manager and label owner, and how we seek growth, sustainability and resillience as we represent Australian cultural production to the world.

SASHA

Grammy Award nominee, four-time International Dance Music Award winner, four time DJ Mag award winner, and now acclaimed live artist, SASHA will head up the Opening Keynote, going into a rare, personal In Conversation with 2SER’s Lorna Clarkson, where he will reflect on his journey and achievements throughout his thirty plus year career; and share what’s most exciting him about the future of electronic music.

With the immense mental and physical toll of professional DJing increasingly in the public spotlight, trying to stay human while being a DJ will be the hot topic when world-famous DJ Gilles Peterson goes into conversation with Greg Wilson for his WeTransfer presented series The Psychology of DJing. Peterson and Wilson will discuss what goes on behind the turntables – looking at how DJs stay healthy and balanced in the face of challenges like isolation and sleep deprivation, and what its like to build a profession out of passion.
